Key responsibilities

I spend part of my days raising and nurturing two beautiful children in Bucks County, PA.

The other portion of my days, and a couple of nights, is spent as an Instructor in the Paralegal Department at Manor College.  As such, I strive to provide guidance, support and encouragement to the students who have enrolled in the program in general, and the courses I teach, in particular.

Having retired from my “day job” as a full-time paralegal, I accepted the position of Education Coordinator for the Paralegal Department/Business Division.  I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to work even more closely with the Director, Diana Pevar, the other instructors and the students to make the Paralegal Programs at Manor an exciting and rewarding experience for all, and maintain its top-notch reputation.  While I sometimes miss the thrills of the courtroom, I am very happy with my decision to devote more time to my family and my career here at Manor.

As the Education Coordination I have been given the task of assisting our paralegal and LNC graduates with placement.  Manor has many contacts in the local legal community, and I receive inquiries and postings for new paralegals and LNC on a regular basis.  In order to put these potential employers in contact with our grads, I ask for a copy of their resumes to be sent to me via email.  This way I am able to send out candidates for open positions almost immediately!  I also invite current or former paralegal and LNC students to feel free to come up and visit me in the Business Division office on Tuesday (12:00 pm – 3:30 pm), Wednesday (1:00 pm – 5:30 pm) or Thursday (10:30 am – 2:30 pm) to discuss your employment goals.

Biographical Information

The professional journey that I have taken which led me to Manor College has been one of challenges, adaptation and, ultimately, rewards.  I began my trip as a new graduate of Kutztown University with a B.S. in Secondary Education and the desire to make a difference in the lives of high school kids.  The first challenge I faced was the fact that, in 1988, very few of the suburban school districts were interested in hiring a newly graduated English teacher (hey, all of my English teachers were old ladies, too) and the Philadelphia Public School District was in financial turmoil (hard to believe, I know) and not awarding new teaching contracts.  So the first four years (we’ll call them miles, to extend the metaphor) of my professional life were spent as a substitute teacher and an instructor at adult education centers to make ends meet.  In 1992, feeling frustrated by what I perceived to be a lack of professional progress, a.k.a. a job with benefits, I decided to change course, enrolled in a paralegal education school, and earned my certificate as a paralegal.   Taking the “road less traveled” has proven to be the right decision for me.  I found my career as a paralegal to be intellectually stimulating, financially satisfying, and rewarding in that I liked what I did, and it offered me the chance to combine my interest in the law with my love for teaching at Manor.  Somewhere along the way I found the time and motivation to earn my Master of Education degree.  And so, as you can see, I have personal experience as a college student who is following a dream, like our Associate’s Degree students, and as an adult-learner who is seeking a second career, like our post-baccalaureate certificate students.
