choose 2, and prepare it to be handed in at the final exam. You may type these prior to the exam or you
may write them out during the exam period.
Essays for Final Exam

Please pick two of the following and answer
in essay form:
1. Why is the formation of conscience such a
fundamental obligation? What are some of the things which contribute to the
formation of conscience? If obedience is to be discerning, then at times we
will refuse obedience to public authority. Please specify the conditions and
possible occasions when civil disobedience would be a moral obligation for you.
2. Take any two of the ten
commandments. How would each of the four methodologies mentioned in Hannigan’s chapter on moral law explain its knowledge of
these commandments?
3. What is the relationship of Justice and Love. Are they identical, complementary or contradictory
virtues? How would you apply this view to the punishment of criminals?
4. Who are the storytellers of today? How do their stories
influence our society? Give three
examples of how they are helpful and truthful. Give three examples of how they
are harmful or deceitful. What are the criteria used in determining a helpful
or deceitful story?
