Pl 100  Study Guide for Midterm Exam

 

Make sure to study class notes, all handouts, all homework assignments, readings in textbook, collaborative exercises on the following topics:

There will be three parts to the midterm.  The first part (45 points) will be 45 multiple-choice questions based on class notes, handouts, films, readings, and homework assignments. 

 

The second part (20 points) will be 4 short answer questions based on class notes, handouts, films, readings and homework assignments and the answers will be written in a bluebook. The questions will cover the symbols in the Allegory of the Cave; the values of Greek society in the film on Greece; an example of a question in metaphysics, axiology or epistemology; the three parts of the soul, according to Plato.

 

The third part (35 points) will be one short essay.  You will have a choice from three topics:  universal aspects of human nature; the theme of the Allegory of the Cave and how it relates to your own experience; Plato’s theory of human nature.  You will have to illustrate your answers with examples, so think of these ahead of time.
